What is Scratch Resistant Acrylic?
Scratch resistant acrylic is a type of acrylic sheeting that has been treated with a special hard coating on its surface. This treatment makes the acrylic more resistant to scratches, abrasions and other types of damage while maintaining its optical clarity and appealing appearance. Scratch resistant acrylic is an easy-to-clean and cost-effective material that can provide long-lasting protection to various types of electronic displays, such as TV screens, computer monitors, tablet screens, and many more.

Hard Coated Acrylic Solutions
Acrylic sheet is well suited as a cover for LED displays because of its versatility in enhancing the clarity of the images. It is available as clear sheet or in a range of standard colours which match most monochrome displays. Although acrylic sheet is more scratch resistant than poly carbonate, its service life is increased with a surface hardcoat. Furthermore, display image clarity can be improved by utilising a microroughened front surface which reduces specular reflectance by light scattering. This is the AG (anti glare) option.
Two Types are Produced:
Type A
This uses a smooth silicone based 7micron thick layer to impart scratch resistance which can incorporate inert microparticles for light scattering and thereby reduce the specular component of reflected light
-
Sheet size up to 1500mm x 1000mm
-
Sheet thicknesses from 1mm to 10mm
-
Clear and a full range of transparent colours with different colour densities
-
Smooth hardcoat on 1 or 2 sides
-
Antiglare (AG) option available on 1side. Two gloss levels available
Type B
This uses an optical grade of cast acrylic and an inorganic coating which gives superior scratch resistance to Type A. Antiglare characteristics are developed with a very fine etched acrylic surface. This is overlaid with the inorganic hard layer and the etched profile maintained.
-
Sheet size 400mm x 500mm
-
Sheet thickness 0.5mm to 5.0mm
-
Clear and standard range of transparent colours
-
Available 1 or 2 sided hardcoated
-
AG option on 1 side with 4 levels of gloss available
Full CNC machining for the manufacture of display windows to customers' specification is available

Useful Information
-
What is ITO coated glass?ITO coated glass is a type of glass that has been coated with a thin layer of indium tin oxide (ITO) material, which is transparent and conductive.
-
What is ITO used for in coated glass?ITO is used to create conductive surfaces on glass, which can be used in a variety of applications such as touch screens, flat panel displays, solar cells, and electronic devices.
-
How is ITO coated onto glass?ITO is typically deposited onto glass using a process called sputtering, which involves bombarding the surface of the glass with ions in a vacuum chamber. This causes the ITO material to be deposited onto the glass in a thin, uniform layer.
-
What are the benefits of using ITO coated glass?ITO coated glass has several benefits, including high optical transparency, low electrical resistance, and high chemical stability. This makes it ideal for use in applications where a conductive surface is required but optical clarity is also important.
-
Can ITO coated glass be recycled?Yes, ITO coated glass can be recycled like any other glass product. However, the process of removing the ITO coating can be challenging and requires specialised equipment.
-
How is ITO coated glass cleaned?ITO coated glass should be cleaned using a soft, lint-free cloth and a mild cleaning solution. Harsh chemicals or abrasive materials should be avoided, as these can damage the ITO coating.
-
How durable is ITO coated glass?ITO coated glass is relatively durable, but it can be susceptible to scratching or damage if not handled carefully. Additionally, exposure to certain chemicals or environmental conditions can cause the ITO coating to degrade over time.
-
Can ITO coated glass be custom-made to specific sizes or shapes?Yes, ITO coated glass can be custom-made to specific sizes and shapes to meet the needs of different applications. Customisation can be achieved through the use of specialised cutting and shaping techniques.
-
What is the cost of ITO coated glass? The cost of ITO coated glass varies depending on several factors, including the size of the glass, the thickness of the ITO coating, and the quantity ordered. Generally, larger quantities and thicker coatings will result in higher costs.
